My Weight Loss Journey

Remember two years ago when I decided to change my lifestyle and lose weight?

Well, I HAVE changed my lifestyle. I work out more often (5 days a week). I eat better. I sleep more.

And yet…I lost a lot of weight at the beginning and am only marginally losing weight now. I’m almost at my goal, but not quite there! I know exactly what I need to do: hunker down and do more strength training (I stopped for a while because…I’m not exactly sure why I stopped, to be honest). I know building muscle is the most efficient way to burn calories. But I haven’t had very much motivation.

Until now.

A few months ago, I was filmed for a news story about workout apps. And now it’s up on the interwebs, and I’m looking at all my lumps and bumps and realizing that I need to tone down a little more. Maybe a lot more. So I guess I found my motivation!

The news story itself is actually really helpful, and if you are in the market for some free apps to help you lose weight, track your workouts or your calories, or if you just want to see what my lumpy self looks like when I jog, here’s the video. Enjoy!

P.S. I do have “before” pictures from 2009 that I will post when I finally get down to my goal weight and can take sexy “after” pictures.

  1. Good for you sharing your triumphs and struggles (and pictures! You’re a much braver woman than I!). This is awesome! I’ve been talking about, and putting off, making changes and working on losing weight. This may just be the kick in the butt I’ve been needing.

  2. Oh, you look great, mama! You’re pretty and I love your braids.  Do you have a secret trick that worked best for you, or is it all just hard work and being smart?  I want to lose 20 lbs this fall, but I’m off to a slow start.

  3. I don’t have a secret trick. It’s just eating right and exercise. That actually takes a lot of discipline, so it’s REALLY HARD WORK. But worth it. I work out first thing in the morning because I know if I don’t do that, I just won’t work out that day. And I track my progress on that DailyBurn app. If I’m watching what I eat, I’ll enter whatever I eat into the tracking database and it’ll tell me how much of each kind of protein, calories, sodium, whatever, I need to lay off of or have more of.

Good luck with the weight loss! It’s okay if you start slowly. At least you’re starting. And strength training (like I said in the post) is the best way to lose fat efficiently, but you might not necessarily be losing weight, because muscle weighs more than fat.

  4. dude you look great. Congrats on setting goals and working toward them. Also, congrats on being famous.
